Lilian Boydell's father, John Boydell 1866-1914. John was a strong supporter of Leigh Harriers. He was secretary of the club from 1898-1909, and was the club track cycle champion in 1890. Director of the family Iron Foundry, he was a member of the Leigh Volunteers and the Territorials, holding the rank of Colour Sergeant.
