Samuel is baptised as the illegitimate son of Susan Haydon, Servant. After Susan's marriage to John Drew he appears with Susan and John in the 1871 census, as 1 year old Samuel Drew. However by the 1881 census John has several of his own children by Susan, and Samuel seems to have be sent to his grandparents. He is listed in the 1881 with Samuel and Elizabeth as their 11 year old son. He appears more correctly described in the 1891 census as the grandson of Elizabeth. In 1901 at Underhills Court, East Street.
On Sept 3rd 1885, Samuel was presented with a silver watch by Crediton Friends, "for saving life at the risk of his own." The watch passed to his in-laws in settlement of a debt, and is now in the possession of a Heard family member.
Still in Crediton in 1930 at Betty Lorraine's funeral.
