After my wife's death, Mount Pleasant is to be held in the same trust as my other property below.
To my son Charles and his wife Maria, held in trust by the trustees my four cottages called The Hill Cottages and my four cottages called Vinnicombes and the gardens and appurtenances of those, and all my other leasehold premises in Trusham, to receive from the trust all rents and profits from the premises having paid all outgoings, insurance and expenses, and repairs, and the same from Mount Pleasant, having used surplus rents to pay the principal and interest monies which may be due on mortgages. After the death of Charles and Maria the property goes to their children. Or if Charles Causley and Maria his wife agree, the trustees can sell the premises and leases at auction, and having paid expenses use the profits to buy Government Securities or Railway stocks or debentures, and pay the income from those to Charles Causley and his wife in equal shares, or to their children after they are both deceased.
In addition, all my money, securities and personal estate not detailed above shall pay my funerary expenses, and the residue shall be given to Charles Causley, his wife Maria and their children as detailed above. On occasions Charles gives his place of birth as Shaldon, or St Nicholas, which is the parish where Shaldon is located. He was not baptised in that parish however. In the GRO his name has been recorded as Cansley.
Margaret and new-born son Charles were not with Samuel at the 1841 census, but with Margaret;s father and sisters. Perhaps because her mother had just died, and her new baby born she needed to be with her sisters.
