Note on Husband: Fred SAFFIN

No reason can be established why he or his brothers emigrated to Australia.

His family advised that he worked on drains with draught horses and ploughs at Beechport and over the boarder at Reedy Creek area prior to his enlistment.

Frederick Saffin enlisted in Australian Imperial Forces on the 14 September 1915. He embarked from Australia 21 March 1916 on HMAT A26 "Armadale". He returned to Australia from active service on 12 May 1919 and was discharged on the 11 August 1919. His occupation at the time of enlistment was Engine Driver and Fireman.

After his discharge, he ultimately was granted a Soldier Settlement block in South Australia near Mt Gambier where he remained until his death.3
