John and Susanna have rather speculatively been selected as parents of John, because his christening date is a good match. There are basically three families of Labbetts recorded for the first part of the 19th century in Crediton, John and Susanna, Richard and Elizabeth, and James and Maria. Richard and Elizabeth have a son John who does not match the John who was to marry Maria Fey. James and Maria's family are living at Woodland Head, close to John and Susan(nah) at 1851 census. Perhaps they are more closely related. It is possible that James is their first born. I can find no trace of his birth or christening. I believe Richard and Elizabeth's family to be Albert's direct ancestors. |
