STAN FAY DEAD AT 68

Funeral services for former Stockbridge Township Supervisor, Stan Fay were Friday, December 20th. Fay died at his home on Monday, December 16th. He was 68

According to Ingham County Sheriff Deputy Sgt Pete Ackerley, Fay was working on an antique tractor when his clothes were ignited by a propane torch. It is believed he had a heart attack while trying to estinguish the flames.

A lifelong resident of the area, Fay was Township Supervisor from 1983 to 2000. He was also a fireman for 30 years.

He farmed all his life and was involved in 4-H, the Michigan Milk Producers Association, and the Michigan Farm Bureau, which honoured his with an award for outstanding young farmer.

Fay attended MSU and was an original participant in the MSU Kellog Farm Program.

Not only did he follow his father into farming, he followed him into politics as well. Ted Fay was Stockbridge Township Supervisor.

"Stan will be missed" said current township supervisor Taylor Gary Allen. "He did an excellent job leading the township for 26 years and left a legacy for me to live up to"

Fay is also remembered as a good neighbor.

"oh, he was a really good neighbor," said Joe Kimbirauskas. "If I got stuck in the field he'd be right there with a tractor to help pull me out."

STANLEY D FAY

Stanley D Fay, 67, Stockbridge, died Monday,December 16th 2002, at his home as a result of a farm accident. He was born November 1, 1935, in Stockbridge, the son of Ted and Olive (Smith) Fay.

Stan had lived and farmed in the area all his life. he was a former member of the Michigan Milk producers Association and a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau.

He had served the comminity as a supervisor of Stockbridge Township for 16 years and was on the Stockbridge Township Fire Department.

He married his first wife, Marilyn Lombard in 1954; August 15th 1981, he married Judith L Howell, and both survive.

Also surviving are his children, Kathleen Fay (special friend Barbara Slovisky) of East Lansing, Stanley Dale Jr (Meredith) Fay of Ann Arbor, Corrine Julian of Battle Creek; step-children, Jason (Susy) Howell of Dimondale, Jennifer (Reese) nevins of Mason; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild to be born soon; a sister, Alice Fay (special friend David Sleeper) of Islesboro, Maine: aunt Maxine Fay of Mason; unle Lawrence (Jean) Fay of Grand Ledge; mother-in-law, Ivah Hyde of Lansing; and several nieces, nephew, and cousins.

Funeral services were Friday, December 20, at Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge. The Rev. Skip Rice officiated.

Deceased Name: Stanley D. Fay: Fire kills former township official

 

Former Stockbridge Township Supervisor Stanley D. Fay died Monday in a fire outside his home.

 

Fay, 68, was working on an antique tractor in his back yard at 3478 Heeney Road when his clothing caught fire about 4:30 p.m., according to the Ingham County Sheriff's Department.

 

The fire was ignited by a propane space heater Fay used to keep warm, deputies reported.

 

Fay, a contractor and farmer, was dead when rescue workers arrived at the scene.

 

A Republican, Fay served 16 years as township supervisor from 1983 to 2000.

 

During his tenure, the township doubled the size of its library, renovated the town hall, upgraded its fire department and struggled with issues of growth and development.

 

"We're all pretty shaken," said township Clerk Mary Wilson. "He will be missed."

 

Funeral arrangements are pending at Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, 424 E. Main St., Stockbridge.
