According to John Heal's Book of Crediton William worked in close co-operation with Samuel Gimblett who had a shoe factory behind Crediton's Town Hall, and most of the leather that William produced was turned into boots and shoes there. A rail was laid from the tan pit to the factory in order to easily transport the cured hides. It is said that this rail has never been taken up. |
