When he arrived in the US Tom worked for a while in a number of jobs before he joined Whitman and Barnes, a drill and tool manufacturing company in Cleveland. He worked for the same company for most of his life, moving from Cleveland, to Detroit and then to Plymouth. Late in his life he moved to California to be near his daughter.
